Sip Stack

Privacy Policy

Beautifully private. Always yours.

Effective June 23, 2026 · Last updated June 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Sip Stack app (“Sip Stack,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Sip Stack is a personal wine journal for iPhone. We built it to be private by default: the heart of your data — your wines, ratings, and notes — lives on your device, not on our servers.

The short version

Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique Apple-provided identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name. Apple may provide a real or a private relay email address. This information is stored locally on your device and is used to personalize the app and keep you signed in. We do not receive or store your Apple password.

Wine label and menu photos

When you scan a wine label, a wine menu, or a dish, the image is sent over an encrypted connection to our server (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards it to OpenAI’s API for visual recognition (for example, to read a label or identify wines on a menu). We use this solely to return results to you. We do not retain these images on our server after processing, and the request bodies are not logged. Under OpenAI’s API terms, content sent through the API is not used to train their models.

Voice notes

If you dictate tasting notes, your speech is transcribed using Apple’s on-device and server-based Speech Recognition. The resulting text is saved in your journal on your device. This is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy terms.

Your journal content

The wines you log, your ratings, flavor preferences, dislikes, wishlists, and the taste profile we build from them are stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device database. We do not upload this content to our servers.

Subscription information

If you purchase Sip Stack Pro, the transaction is processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to manage and verify your subscription status. We receive a non-identifying subscription record (whether Pro is active) and do not receive your payment-card details, which are handled entirely by Apple.

Diagnostic information

We do not operate our own analytics or tracking SDK. Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash and usage statistics if you have opted in to share them with developers in your iOS settings; this is controlled by you in iOS.

How we use information

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

Third-party services

Sip Stack relies on a small number of trusted providers to function. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies:

Data storage and retention

Your journal content is stored on your device and persists until you delete it or remove the app. Photos sent for scanning are processed in transit and not retained on our server. Subscription records held by RevenueCat are retained as long as needed to manage your subscription.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account inside the app. This removes your locally stored wines, journal entries, top selections, profile, wishlist, and on-device preferences, and signs you out of your subscription session. Deleting the app from your device also removes locally stored data. To revoke Sign in with Apple, visit your Apple ID settings under “Sign in with Apple.”

Security

Connections between the app and our server use HTTPS encryption. Requests to our scanning server are authenticated, and we apply rate limiting to protect against abuse. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children’s privacy

Sip Stack is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will address it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because the bulk of your data is stored on your own device and under your control, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

International users

Sip Stack is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. and in the countries where our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Your continued use of Sip Stack after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
